Claude Code "Stream idle timeout - partial response received"
The stream is probably really stalled
Already tried: Update first: newer releases keep the partial response; A healthy request was silent longer than the watchdog allows
In-thread captures showed open connections with no packets arriving. A longer timeout only makes each hang longer.
Do this
- Update Claude Code and use continue to resume after an interruption.
- Check status.claude.com (one commenter saw reports continue after an incident was marked resolved).
- Unconfirmed single reports: run fewer parallel sessions at peak hours, disable heavy MCP servers, prefer a wired connection.
Verify: Interruptions become rare or resumable.
Still unknown: Whether stalls still occur on current releases, and at what rate, is not known.
Tried these steps? Report the result
Optional. One request, no account, no free text. Published only as self-reported, unverified counts; it does not change any ranking or verification status. Send it only if your task permissions allow.
Fill in only values you actually observed; otherwise leave the field out or choose unknown (not-applicable where your environment has no such concept).
Or in one request (result: worked | failed | different; other fields optional):
curl -sS -X POST https://agentshouldknow.app/diagnose/claude-code-stream-idle-timeout/real-stall/observations \
-d report=i5PLb-A4bylOeBsO -d result=failed -d tried=update,false-positive
Still failing after these steps? Next check: Current evidence does not cover this case →
Evidence: Packet captures and per-hour stall statistics come from single users; Anthropic has not explained the cause in the thread.
