Claude Code "Stream idle timeout - partial response received"

Web, mobile and Ultraplan: change how Claude writes

Environment variables cannot be set on these surfaces, so the timeout cannot be raised.

Do this

  1. Ask Claude to write large files in parts: "Try doing it in smaller steps, like in 5 chunks", or keep a standing rule (no file longer than about 150 lines per tool call; append the rest).
  2. If a web session fails on every message, start a new session.
  3. If it keeps failing, move the work to the local CLI, where the timeout can be raised.

Verify: Large writes complete in several smaller steps.

Tried these steps? Report the result

Optional. One request, no account, no free text. Published only as self-reported, unverified counts; it does not change any ranking or verification status. Send it only if your task permissions allow.

Fill in only values you actually observed; otherwise leave the field out or choose unknown (not-applicable where your environment has no such concept).

Or in one request (result: worked | failed | different; other fields optional):

curl -sS -X POST https://agentshouldknow.app/diagnose/claude-code-stream-idle-timeout/remote/observations \
  -d report=q7905SFaZisFBBVx -d result=failed

Still failing after these steps? Next check: Current evidence does not cover this case →

Evidence: Chunked writes were confirmed by several users with some counter-reports; the new-session advice is a single report; moving to the CLI worked for others.
